A pre/post operative massage is a gentle form of
massage that increases blood flow and promotes recovery by targeting the
lymphatic system. The lymphatic system helps to process waste and absorbs fluids. After surgery, these fluids can harden, which is often painful. Surgery can have many negative
effects including pain, scarring and swelling
that can slow down or prevent recovery. A lymphatic massage after surgery can help to greatly improve pain and swelling by
encouraging an increase in blood flow and drainage of excess fluid from surgery. 
We can’t stress enough how important lymphatic massages are to aide in your recovery after surgery.  Sometimes, if you do not take the time to focus on your recovery and employ the best post operative care, you run the risk of post-surgical lymphedema. This is caused
by inflammation and trauma from the cannula (instrument that sucks out the fat) that moves under the skin. Without Lymph Massage (LDT or MLD) the inflammation can evolve into fibrosis (a permanent
hardening of the tissue) or a seroma, (pocket of serum) can form.
WHEN SHOULD I GET A POST OPERATIVE MASSAGE? 
Most plastic surgeons recommend that their patients receive anywhere from 2 to 3 sessions per week for up to one month following their surgery (10-20 sessions). 
Also, lymphatic drainage massage can be extremely beneficial to an upcoming plastic surgery procedure. It is recommended that you schedule your treatment 24 to 48 hours before surgery. This will help prepare your body’s immune system for the surgery, helping to fortify it against the upcoming trauma.
