Vitiligo Focused Laser Hair Removal Plan
At Perfect Body Laser & Wellness, we understand the unique needs of clients living with vitiligo. Our laser hair removal treatments are carefully tailored to respect your skin’s sensitivity and minimize any potential risks.
Vitiligo causes a loss of pigment in certain areas of the skin, and because traditional lasers target melanin, we take a cautious and customized approach. Our team uses specialized technology and adjusted settings to ensure effective hair reduction while prioritizing skin safety.
We begin with a detailed consultation and patch test to evaluate your skin’s response. Whether you’re seeking smoother skin on the face, underarms, legs, or other areas, our providers work closely with you to build a plan that supports both your goals and your comfort.
Our goal is simple: safe, effective, and confidence-boosting results—no matter your skin type.
People with vitiligo can get laser hair removal, but there are some important precautions and risks to consider:
1. Risk of Triggering Koebner Phenomenon
Vitiligo patients may experience the Koebner phenomenon, where trauma to the skin (like laser treatment) can trigger new vitiligo patches in the treated area. This doesn’t happen to everyone, but it’s a known risk.
2. Laser Settings Need to Be Adjusted
Because vitiligo patches lack melanin, the laser (which targets pigment in the hair follicle) may be less effective in those areas. Also, lighter skin patches can be more sensitive to burns or irritation.
An experienced provider should carefully adjust the laser settings for safety.
3. Not All Lasers Are Safe for Vitiligo
•Nd:YAG (1064nm) lasers are often preferred for patients with darker skin types or pigment concerns.
•Diode lasers can be used cautiously but may need lower fluence settings.
4. Patch Test is Critical
Before full treatment, a patch test should be performed on a small area to see how the skin reacts.
5. Sun Protection is Essential
After treatment, strict sun avoidance and sunscreen use are important to prevent pigmentation changes in both normal and vitiligo-affected skin.
